UNGA AT 100
Just after Kenyans were fed up with the prices of maize flour, what everyone has been waiting for just happened. Earlier yesterday, the Ministry of Agriculture announced the new prices for maize flour.
In the last
four months, maize flour has been retailing at a price of 230ksh, a price that
did not go well with almost every citizen. After the ministry reviewed the
prices it made it clear that a 2kg packet of ugali will now be retailing at
100shilings. A 1 kg of maize flour will be retailing at 52 shillings while a 500g
packet of flour will now be retailing at 30shillings.
The ministry
of agriculture added saying that it has made a deal with the maize millers that
they will now be producing maize flour at a cheaper price and retailing it at a
wholesale price.
According to
the Ministry of Agriculture, the new price of maize flour will only run for
four weeks until the election period is over.
The
reduction in the price of maize flour did however not go well with all the
politicians. The deputy president William Ruto claimed that the reduction is a
whole strategy to give credit to the Azimio Coalition.
