KWAASALI ROAD ACCIDENT
7 people
have died in Kwaasali area along Thika- Garrisa highway over a road accident in
Kanyonyo area. The accident involved a bus and a saloon car. A driver that was
driving behind the saloon car said that the saloon car lost control and swerved
to the right side of the road rolled twice making it get knocked by the bus.
The area OCPD Mary Njoki has confirmed that all the 7 people died on the spot.
The saloon car was traveling to Mwingi while the bus was heading to Nairobi
from Garrisa. 5 of the 7 that died were from the saloon car while 2 were passengers
traveling by bus.
This comes
two days after an accident occurred just two kilometers away from Kwasaali area
at Kanyonyo in Matuu where 11 people died in a road accident too. The accident
was ferrying passengers that were coming from a marriage negotiation ceremony
or a dowry negotiation ceremony at Mbondoni, in Mwingi West. The area chief
Jacob Mueti confirmed that eleven people died on the spot after the car rolled
a couple of times killing 10 passengers and the 11th passenger died
while receiving treatment at Matuu Level 44 hospital. The area administrator
confirmed that the matatu was carrying more passengers than the normal estimate
and they suspect that the matatu hit a pothole which caused the matatu to roll.
In another
accident just in the same week, On 5th Monday evening in Kihunguro
area in Ruiru, 5 people died after the lorry they were traveling in got crushed
by a passing train. Confirming the scene Kenya Railways highlighted that the train
was on its way back from ferrying empty saddles when it hit the lorry killing
five passengers. The police present said that they found four bodies trapped
below the train while one died later while receiving treatment in hospital. 12
others however got injured and are still recuperating.
