SONKO SOBS IN SORROW

Just a day after the Supreme Court gave the former Nairobi Governor the mandate for vying for the Mombasa gubernatorial race, earlier today the Supreme Court made it clear that the decision has been revoked and that he will not be able to vie for the same seat.

Mike Mbuvi Sonko has been on the highlights since IEBC began the process of analyzing all candidates. The procedure IEBC was using was fair and unique in that no candidate would be pronounced qualified not until all his required documents were dag into. Apart from their documents, their physical approach to how they have been running in office and how they ended up getting impeached from office was followed too.

As luck seemed not to be on Sonko’s side, his impeachment from office became a huge hindrance for him.  As the constitution states in chapter 6, any candidate impeached from office isn’t allowed to vie for any other seat.

Governor Mike Sonko wrote an appeal to the Supreme Court asking them to preview his case and since then the Supreme Court has been handling various sittings. A day ago the Supreme court announced that Mike Sonko was free to vie for the gubernatorial seat in Mombasa.

However, after some special sitting by the Supreme Court, It has earlier today confirmed that Mike Sonko was fairly removed from office. With that, he is not eligible to run for the seat. The key values in the race were that a candidate should not have been found in any cases of having misused his office or got impeached. The same case happened to Karungo Thangwa who was also removed from office. For this, he was also unable to continue vying for the seat he had chosen.
