KENYATTA UNIVERSITY VICE-CHANCELLOR RESIGNS
The Vice-Chancellor
of Kenyatta University Prof. Paul Wainaina resigned from office early today.
Prof. Paul Wainana has claimed that he is resigning from office because he does
not want to give out the Kenyatta University piece of land to the government.
During his
speech to students and council members of Kenyatta University, Prof. Paul
Wainaina claimed that he has received close to three letters in a span of two
days. All these letters were asking him to avail himself for meetings so as he
may sign documents to ascertain the leasing of the piece of land to the
government.
He read the
content in all three letters which referred to the title deed numbers of the piece
of land. The letters claimed that they give out a total of 338 acres of land to
4 different departments for different projects on each of the pieces of land.
In the last
letter, he received, which contained the summary of the number of acres the
council was being asked to give out, he stated that the council was being asked
to give 30 acres to the World Health Organization, 10 acres to the African Centre
for disease control and prevention, 180 acres to Kenyatta University Teaching Referral
and Research Hospital and lastly 190 acres to facilitate the resolution of the
Kamai Settlement Scheme.
The Prof.
however finished his speech by saying that today was probably the last day the
Kenyatta University fraternity would be hearing from him. He bitterly also said
that whatever happens, he is doing it for the betterment of the University as
he does not want to give the school property to the government.
