WILL THE 6OOOKSH BE A RELIEF OR BURDEN TO KENYA’S ECONOMY?
Azimio la
Umoja coalition recently laid out their manifesto touching all sectors from education
to police bodies. Among his ten stipulated 10 manifestos, there was one that
enthusiased every citizen. Raila said through “Inua jamii” citizens will get
6000ksh every month to help them and mostly single mothers.
From a recent
interview held, the chairperson of the Azimio presidential campaign board
governor Ndiritu Muriithi said that already the households that are to get the
6000ksh have already been identified. He said the money aims to help those families
that are not in a position to provide for themselves on a day-to-day routine.
He said two million households have already been identified.
This is to
mean that every identified household will get 6000KSH. There are two million
households at hand, that is to say, every month, Azimio’s government will set
aside 12 billion KSH for the “Inua jamii” implementation. Also, that is to say,
annually Azimio’s government will be releasing 144 billion KSH to citizens. Every
year 144 billion will be included in Azimio’s budget to cater to citizens.
The Kenyan
government as of 2021 had a budget of 2.91 trillion. In 2022 it had a budget of
3.31 trillion. Remember the budget kept is not always enough and Kenya has had
to borrow loans from other countries like China. Currently, Kenya is working at
a debt of 8.02 trillion that is yet to be paid back to the countries they
borrowed money from. Where will the Azimio government get the 144 billion annually
to give to citizens yet the budgeted amount that they will have annually will
not even be enough for the normal allocations that are always done? Is this to
mean that the Azimio government will be borrowing money from other countries as
well in order to be able to sustain giving citizens the promised 6000Ksh monthly?
