RACISM FOR SALE SUSPECT, SUSU, ARRESTED
Days after
BBC Eye released a documentary concerning a Chinese Citizen who had been
misusing Malawian children for his own gain, the Malawian government finally was
able to arrest the man behind the videos earlier yesterday.
Susu which
is a Chinese word that meant uncle was the name Lu Ke used while in Malawi to
conceal his identity. Lu Ke was arrested yesterday after the department of
immigration and citizenship service spokesman, Pasqually Zulu confirmed the matter
saying Lu Ke was arrested in neighboring Zambia.
The embassy
of China in Malawi earlier posted on Twitter saying, The embassy noted with
great concern the video racism for sale. We strongly condemn racism in any form,
by anyone, or happening anywhere. We also noted the video was shot in 2020. It
shall be stressed that the Chinese government has zero-tolerance for racism.”
Last week
Chinese diplomat Wu Peng said that he had discussed the matter with the Malawian
Foreign Minister. “China has been cracking down on those unlawful online accts
in the past years. We will continue to crack down on such racial discrimination
videos in the future.” He said.
Lu Ke had
earlier been producing videos while in Malawi. He used to take Malawi children
and make them chant words in Chinese that they did not understand the meaning.
He would make them stand in rows and take videos of them shouting the words. One
specific video that caught the attention of many was a video made in February
2020 where Lu Ke made the children shout, “I am a black Monster. My IQ is low.
Yeah,” all this in Chinese. He would make them repeat over and over.
After the
account where the videos would get posted got investigated, it was realized
that Lu Ke would take up to 380 videos in a day. He would sell the videos back
to China for Chinese citizens to post on their social media pages. Most of the
videos were found on a social media platform called “Jokes about black people
club,” He would sell his videos for 30-70 US dollars. Lu Ke claimed that the
reason behind him making the videos was for the purpose of spreading Chinese
culture to Africans. A statement that was found hilarious since the children he
claimed to be teaching the language had not learned even how to talk in Chinese
after all those series of training.
Pasqually
Zulu who is the migrations spokesman from Malawi has said that they are now liaising
with China so as a Chinese National be sent to Malawi for the investigation to
continue.
