POLICE IMPUNITY
20th May 2022 at 5pm on my way back home from jogging, I happened to get tired and decided to stand just by the road to take deep breaths to regain my energy back before I embark on jogging.
Just where I was standing, constructions of remodeling an old road were taking place. With this it means the normal size of the road will be reduced since construction is ongoing and therefore the remaining road is the one to cater for both cars that were initially operating on a two-way road to now operate on one.
I become curious on understanding how all this happens. On one side of the road constructers are working, on the other side a traffic police is trying his best to control traffic, on the further end a contractor is also keen to make sure the constructers are doing what is right and just from nowhere a cyclist is seen flying in the air.
What happened is that a blue police car seemed to have lost control after not seeing some road block placed at some section of the road and what he did was diverting to the other end of the road, pushing the cyclist by the left side of his car and send him flying in the air and landing back on the ground with some force that probably broke either his arms or knees.
As if this was not enough, the traffic police officer who was controlling traffic on this road was standing a stone throw away from where the cyclist got knocked and the best he could was shout saying, "Nini mbaya kijana?" He probably saw everything that happened from the start to the end but the best he did was behaving as though the cyclist that got knocked was a random chicken that could maybe have been crossing the road.
Is this the same body that we should run to and get help after anything wrong happens to us? Where should citizens run to now? How will the cyclist even gain the courage of going to the nearest police station and report the case yet the officer on desk is the same officer that almost killed him? Why is the police body failing us as citizens?
If only the police driver stood and checked on the cyclist what would be the harm? If only the traffic officer got concerned and even helped the cyclist in waking up couldn't that be an action of honor?
It has reached a point where the police are failing citizens extremely and within no time citizens will start fighting back. It has reached a point where citizens will see no importance at all of going to report any illegal action to police stations because they feel neglected, humiliated, seen as to being of no importance and a nuisance.
IT'S TIME FOR THE POLICE BODY TO LEAVE BEHIND IMPUNITY AND START TREATING CITIZENS RIGHT.
